MEDICAL MEDICATION- A Medical Education Program Second to None in the West
Pacific Hospital of Long Beach excels in operating the oldest osteopathic postgraduate training program in California. The program is approved for 26 interns and residents. We offer residencies in family practice, internal medicine, dermatology and a traditional rotating internship. Our program offers rotations for 3rd and 4th year medical students, which includes all of the hospital services provided.
In additions, the most distinguished element of PHLB's program is the Pacific Family Clinic, located on our main campus.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our goal is to train physicians of excellence. We will accomplished by meeting and exceeding all standard requirements including professional demeanor, personal integrity, medical expertise, and communication skills.
GOAL
To provide a curriculum by which newly graduate physicians become competent licensed physicians through the teaching of clinical skills, and interpersonal skills. Diagnostic and therapeutic intervention will also be addressed and mastered.
ROTATING TRANSITIONAL INTERNSHIP
The intern year is designed to satisfy requirements of the American Osteopathic Association Traditional Rotating Internship and also meets ACGME guidelines.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum for OGME-1 includes: sixteen (16) weeks of internal medicine, four (4) weeks ICU, four (4) weeks pediatrics- ambulatory, four (4) weeks general surgery, four (4) weeks obstetrics, four (4) emergency medicine, four (4) weeks family practice, four (4) weeks block night float, and eight (8) weeks electives.
INTERNAL MEDICINE
Internal medicine is he discipline encompassing the study and practice of health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of men and women during times of health and through all stages of acute and chronic illness.
The hospital maintains an active ICU and General Medicine ward service but does not offer invasive/surgical cardiology. There is a hospital based outpatient ambulatory care continuity clinic and general Internal Medicine and all subspecialty offering such as Neurology and Endocrinology are provided. All of the major subspecialties are represented.
CURRICULUM
OGME 1 curriculum includes sixteen (16) weeks of Internal Medicine, eight (8) weeks ICU, four (4) surgery, four (4) weeks emergency medicine, four (4) weeks cardiology, four (4) weeks night float, four (4) weeks pulmonary, four (4) weeks family practice block and four (4) weeks elective.
OGME 2 curriculum includes sixteen (16) weeks general internal medicine, four (4) weeks hematology/oncology, four (4) weeks icu, four (4) weeks gastroenterology, four (4) weeks rheumatology, four (4) weeks night float, four (4) weeks cardiology, four (4) selective and eight (8) weeks elective.
OGME 3 curriculum includes sixteen (16) weeks general internal medicine four (4) weeks endocrinology, four (4) weeks infectious disease, four (4) weeks nephrology, four (4) weeks neurology, four (4) weeks icu, eight (8) weeks elective, four (4) weeks selective, two (2) weeks dermatology and two (2) weeks surgical elective.
FAMILY PRACTICE
Pacific Hospital of Long Beach has an integrated 36- month family practice training program. The goal of the program is to train family practice care in an osteopathic practice within an urban or rural environment..
Our training program is committed to providing supportive faculty, diverse pathology, and outpatient clinic opportunities. The ambulatory continuity experience requires clinic responsibilities for one-half day per week during the OGME-1 year and increasing to four half days as an OGME2 and OGME3.

OGME 2 curriculum includes four (4) weeks internal medicine, four (4) weeks icu, four (4) weeks block night float, four (4) weeks family practice, four (4) weeks orthopedics, four (4) weeks gyn, four (4) weeks cardiology, eight (8) weeks pediatrics, four (4) weeks emergency medicine, two (2) weeks psychiatry, (2) weeks radiology, four (4) weeks ob, and four (4) weeks elective.
OGME 3 curriculum includes four (4) weeks internal medicine, four (4) weeks icu, four (4) urology, four (4) weeks ob, two (2) weeks ent, two (2) weeks opht, four (4) weeks dermatology, four (4) emergency medicine, eight (8) weeks family practice, four (4) weeks pediatrics, four (4) weeks selective and eight (8) weeks elective.
DERMATOLOGY
The dermatology residency at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach is a three-year office-based residency program. It is designed to develop clinical, surgical and cosmetic skills in dermatologic diagnosis, procedures and therapy.
The residency program is a consortium with Western University and Pacific Hospital of Long Beach with emphasis on academic achievement and scientific thought as it relates to the practical approach and management of common and complex dermatologic conditions.
All residents are allowed 14 days vacation and are required to attend the AOCS and AAS conventions. Other seminars, courses, and conferences are allowed with the approval of the program director. Our residents are encouraged to participate in scientific research and publish in medical journals.

CURRICULUM
All residents will be exposed to and mange a variety of clinical dermatology cases and will participate in multiple dermatologic surgeries. Each resident is allowed a one-month elective rotation per year and will participate in a weekly Dermatopathology conference. Additionally all residents will attend the dermatology clinic at Pacific Hospital of Long Beach. Journal club, book review, and directed reading assignments are conducted on a regular basis.
Second year residents are allowed to do outside rotations in MOHS Surgery, Sclero-therapy, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, Mesotheraphy, Plastic Surgery, liposuction, hair transplation and other rotations of interest.
